Cost Alerts

Overview

Cost alerts notify users about significant changes in spending, helping manage budgets and optimize resource usage. By setting daily and weekly thresholds, users can track cost increases or decreases and take immediate action to prevent overspending and optimize resource usage.

Key Benefits of Setting Cost Alerts

  • Stay informed about spending patterns across your cluster and workloads without manual monitoring.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities or sudden cost increases proactively.

Types Of Cost Alerts

Cost alerts are triggered based on thresholds for daily and weekly cost changes. The types of alerts include:

1. Daily Cost Alerts

  • Increase Alerts: Triggered when daily spending rises above the set daily threshold (e.g., 4%).
  • Decrease Alerts: Triggered when daily spending drops below the set daily threshold, indicating reduced usage or possible cost savings opporunity.

2. Weekly Cost Alerts

  • Increase Alerts: Triggered when weekly spending exceeds the set weekly threshold (e.g., 3%).
  • Decrease Alerts: Triggered when weekly spending drops below the set weekly threshold.
Example

If the daily threshold is set at 4%, any daily increase or decrease beyond this value will trigger an alert.

Note

By default, both daily and weekly thresholds are set to 10%, but you can adjust these values in the cost settings to better suit your monitoring requirements.

Viewing Cost Alerts

Users can monitor cost alerts through the following methods:

1. Cost Alerts Page

Note

This feature is only available in the Premium version of Randoli.

  • Navigate to the Cost Management section and select the Cost Alerts page.

  • The page lists all triggered alerts with details such as:

    • Cost change amount
    • Percentage change
    • Cluster name
    • Alert generation time
  • Status Indicators: Included with each alert, making it easier to track which clusters are experiencing cost changes.

2. Email Notification

  • Alerts are sent directly to the configured email address.
  • This ensures users stay informed without actively monitoring the platform.

Resource-Type Breakdown for Cost Alerts

For more granular insights, Increase Alerts can be broken down by resource types, such as:

  • Compute
  • Storage
  • Networking components

How to Enable Resource-Type Breakdown

  1. Navigate to the Cost Alerts page.
  2. Toggle the Resource Type Breakdown switch.

Importance

This feature helps pinpoint the exact resources driving cost changes, making it easier to optimize spending.
